Operation Rice Bowl
In today’s Gospel, Jesus reminds us that judgment, repentance, and dying to sin are necessary before we can truly know the joy of God’s mercy, forgiveness, and new life in Christ. Jesus put it this way: “if you love your life, you must let it go…If you want to serve me, you must follow me and do what I do…”
As we continue our Operation Rice Bowl journey let us remember in prayer that human beings are not only sacred, but also social. How we participate in our family and community, from our daily actions to our policy decisions, affects each and every person. May our fasting keep us mindful of the families and communities that are hungry. May our almsgiving assist Catholic Relief Services as we learn about education programming in Ghana.
Reminder: If you took a baby bottle home to collect change for Choices Resource Center, Please return it this week.
Please continue to support our gift card program!!!
DIOCESAN NEWS
Please accept an invitation to the celebration of Tenebrae at Holy Ghost Church, Monday, April 6, at 7:30 pm. The office of Tenebrae is a Holy Week devotion dating back to the seventh or eighth century A.D. and is characterized by the successive extinguishing of candles as the service progresses. No Service during the entire church year is more biblical.
Catholic Charities’ Office of Immigrant Services provides low-cost assistance for those who cannot afford an attorney. Services include status adjustments, petitioning for family members, citizenship and naturalization, and translation services. The program is accredited by the U.S. Bureau of Immigration Appeals.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is proposing legislation that would rescind an important federal regulation protecting the conscience rights of health care providers, especially those at risk of being discriminated against because of their moral or religious objection to abortion. The Catholic community must speak out to protect Catholic doctors, nurses and hospitals. Please visit www.usccb.org/conscienceprotection to access links to voice your concerns to the HHS. Comments must be posted by April 9, 2009.
